AEX price remains stable: important trade fair week can change everything

The Dutch stock exchange is starting the new trading week cautiously. The AEX price fluctuates around 1,132 points on Monday, while investors are preparing for an important week full of interest rate decisions and quarterly figures. In particular, the results of major American technology companies can provide movement in the coming days.

The AEX stands at 1,132.04 points on Monday afternoon at 1.38 pm, a modest increase of 0.036 percent. Earlier in the day, the index fell to 1,128.35 points, followed by a recovery.

The Amsterdam main index thus remains above the important support zone at around 1,123 points. At this level, there are previous price peaks, which now serve as a possible bottom. As long as the AEX remains above, the technical damage is limited according to the market analysis provided.

With a further recovery, the recent summit comes around 1,147 points back into focus. That level is close to the highest level of the past 52 weeks, which stands at 1,147.35 points.

Investors are mainly looking at the US Federal Reserve, the European Central Bank (ECB) and the Bank of Japan this week. All three are expected to leave interest rates unaffected.

Nevertheless, uncertainty is growing due to oil prices. Brent oil was more than six percent more expensive last week due to concerns about supply from the Middle East. Higher energy prices could reignite inflation.

The quarterly figures of Alphabet, Microsoft and Amazon are also receiving a lot of attention. According to ing investment strategist Simon Wiersma, investors mainly want to know when the huge investments in artificial intelligence will actually yield a profit.

Expectations are now high. According to Wiersma, this explains why technology shares have been under pressure in recent days.

Within the AEX, price movements vary considerably. ABN AMRO is one of the biggest winners with an increase of about three percent. Exor and ing are also higher.

SBM Offshore, on the other hand, is losing more than three percent. Shell yields about 1.8 percent, while Heineken is also under pressure.

The picture is more positive for medium-sized companies. The AMX rises about 1.2 percent, helped by strong share price gains at Basic-Fit and Air France-KLM.

Randstad also attracts attention, but in a negative sense. The share loses more than two percent after Kepler Cheuvreux analysts lowered their investment advice.

In the coming days, the quarterly results of US technology companies and the explanations from central banks in particular could determine the further course of the AEX price.
