AEX heading upwards: ASML, BESI and ASMI set the tone

The AEX price started today with a modest increase on the last day of the week. That rise follows a green day for Wall Street, after the probability of an interest rate hike by the US central bank fell to 50 percent; among other things, after statements by central banker Christopher Waller.

Today, the AEX is therefore helped by increases at ASML, BESI and ASMI. These are the great chippers of the Netherlands. ASML in particular has a heavy weighting in the AEX and is thus pushing the price up.

At the time of writing, ASML stands for an increase of 1.64 percent. This brings the exchange rate to 1,446 euros. Although the all-time high of 1,740 euros is quite far away, ASML is sending a positive signal.

In addition to ASML, we also see BESI and ASMI increases by 2.53 and 2.70 percent respectively. Today's biggest winner is TomTom, which can record an increase of more than 4 percent for this trade fair day.

For the rest of the day, the market shifts its focus to the American labor market. After yesterday's relatively weak ADP jobs report, we again get important figures on the jobs market today.

The weakness in private job growth we saw yesterday already helped to lower the likelihood of an interest rate hike. Although the US labour market still looks solid, it is starting to weaken.

This means that the US central bank must be more careful with interest rate hikes.

In addition, you do not solve the oil problem with interest rate increases. An interest rate hike does not suddenly lead to more oil. In any case, the market seems to be doing well that the chance of an interest rate hike is now falling.
