AEX price just below record, despite fear of black Monday
The AEX price opened today just below its absolute record, while investors were worried about a giant crash.
Today, the AEX price has started the new stock market week practically unchanged, trading just below its all-time high. This is remarkable, as investors were particularly concerned about a crash on Monday morning on Elon Musk's X platform.
Strangely enough, the infamous Black Monday crash of 1987 happened on October 19. Today is also October 19. That's probably also why investors were a bit more worried about the opening.
Although those concerns were not entirely unjustified. On Saturday night, AI stocks suddenly started crashing on Hyperliquid. For some time now, shares have been tradable on the crypto platform 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Saturday night's crash started the market to worry. However, it is important to know that trading volumes on Hyperliquid are relatively low. Especially when it comes to individual shares.
As a result, a relatively small amount of capital can cause stress. For the time being, the market seems to be holding up reasonably well. The AEX has started the new stock market week practically unchanged, while the American futures even turn green.
The eyes will be mainly on Tesla and Meta Platforms this week. They will present their quarterly figures for Q3 2026 on Wednesday evening. Investors will especially want to see evidence that the huge AI investments are now really resulting in higher profits.
The figures from these two tech giants will become important for the AI cycle.
Furthermore, as far as the AEX is concerned, the focus is also on Besi, who will be the second Dutch chipper to present his figures on Thursday.
In addition, this week we are receiving figures from Randstad, Basic-Fit, Akzo Nobel and RELX. This will give investors enough information to process this week.
In macroeconomic terms, it is not so bad in terms of figures. This week, investors will mainly focus on US bond yields and, of course, the oil price.
