AEX price down, while oil price grabs spotlight again

The AEX price slides today. Oil is rising as the market waits for SpaceX, Meta and Tesla this week.

AEX price down, while oil price grabs spotlight again

The AEX price is still trading close to its all-time high, while the market is getting a bang today. At the time of writing, the AEX is more than 0.75 percent lower since the opening of the exchange. That seems to be the result of the oil price, which jumped again this morning.

Today, it is once again the chippers who cause the big losses within the AEX. ASML, BESI and ASMI are all diving down by more than 3 percent today. With that, we can safely say that the AI fear is not over yet.

Because bond yields have risen sharply worldwide in recent months, investors are becoming increasingly concerned about the AI sector.

In particular, the issue of recouping the large investments has become more difficult.

Investors can now get over 5 percent on US government bonds. This makes it less and less attractive to subsequently opt for stocks that are surrounded by uncertainty.

This is clearly reflected in the AEX. Although the Dutch stock market index is still close to its absolute record price, the real positive momentum has been gone for a while.

This week, in addition to the rise in oil prices and the still looming bond yields, the market is dominated by quarterly figures.

Today, after the trade fairs in New York closed, we are dealing with a big name. It is SpaceX's turn to make itself heard regarding the third quarter of this year.

Tomorrow we'll get Meta Platforms, Mark Zuckerberg's company, and Elon Musk's Tesla.

In this way, the market receives figures from three major players in the AI world in a short time, which can thus paint a fairly complete picture of the health of that industry.

In that respect, it will be important days for the AEX and other major stock market indices.
