Donald Trump's Chief Crypto Advisor Leaves White House

The departure of Trump's top crypto advisor raises questions about the future of US crypto policy and legislation.

Donald Trump's Chief Crypto Advisor Leaves White House

US President Donald Trump's crypto team continues to change. While the government is working on new legislation for the sector, several key advisers have now left the White House. This increases the uncertainty about who should guide Trump's crypto plans in the coming period.

Patrick Witt, the White House's top crypto advisor, announced his departure last week. He leaves the US government and returns to business.

Witt was executive director of the President's Council of Advisors for Digital Assets. This advisory council deals with US crypto policy and supports the government in the development of new regulations.

With his departure, it is unclear for the time being who will be responsible for crypto policy within the White House. Moreover, Witt is not the first advisor to leave. Earlier, Harry Jung and Bo Hines also said goodbye to their positions within Trump's crypto team.

Despite the changes within the crypto team, crypto remains an important topic for Trump, according to the White House. A government official said that the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act will also remain on the agenda.

This law should create clearer rules for the US crypto market. This includes the division of responsibilities between regulators and the way crypto companies are regulated.

Nevertheless, it is still unclear who will coordinate the further development of policy from the White House.

That's important because several U.S. government agencies are currently working on new crypto rules.

This includes the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). The US Department of the Treasury and the banking regulator OCC also play a role.

The departure comes a few weeks before the US midterm elections in November. The result could have major consequences for Trump's plans. If the Democrats win the majority in the House of Representatives, it may be harder for the government to get new crypto laws passed.
