Concerns about AI are so serious that the head of ChatGPT reached out to Trump

Donald Trump spoke live on stage with Jensen Huang during the All-In Summit and called fears about AI "nonsense." Here's what you need to know.

Concerns about AI are so serious that the head of ChatGPT reached out to Trump

Donald Trump publicly acts as if concerns about AI are exaggerated. In recent days, the U.S. president even called the fear of AI a “hoax.”

During the All-In Summit, a conference for investors in Silicon Valley, he emphasized that data centers are actually great because they make people and states rich.

But behind the scenes, something striking happened. Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, reportedly had a private conversation with Trump last week during the Republican convention. According to sources, Altman himself requested the meeting. The conversation centered on the growing power of artificial intelligence.

That very same weekend, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, Sam Altman, and Elon Musk called for a slowdown in the development of the most powerful AI models. According to them, the safety risks are now significant enough to warrant more serious consideration of the pace, oversight, and control of AI development.

Trump is publicly taking the opposite stance. He dismisses AI-related concerns as exaggerated panic and tries to keep the economic narrative front and center. AI means data centers, investments, jobs, wealth, and geopolitical power.

That’s a powerful message to investors. But if the concerns are truly unfounded, why is the president meeting behind closed doors with the world’s leading AI executive?

For Trump, AI isn’t just another technology sector. It’s industrial policy, geopolitics, and a stock market narrative all at once. The United States wants to stay ahead of China, states want to attract data centers, and Wall Street is counting on years of investment in chips, the cloud, energy, and infrastructure.

That’s why it makes sense that Trump doesn’t want to slow down the AI narrative. Fear of regulation could disrupt the investment cycle. And that investment cycle is precisely one of the key drivers behind the U.S. economy and stock market.

Yet tensions are mounting. If AI companies themselves are warning of risks, it’s hard for politicians to keep pretending that nothing is wrong.

Despite Trump’s positive remarks, Nvidia fell 3 percent on Monday, and chip stocks came under broader pressure. Investors therefore do not seem fully convinced by the political reassurances.

The reason is simple. If there is serious talk of a slowdown in AI development, it could have consequences for revenue growth, data centers, chip demand, and future IPOs of companies like OpenAI and Anthropic.
