Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson is working on a new programming language
Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson is developing a new programming language that should make crypto applications safer and easier.
Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson is personally working on a new programming language for his blockchain. In doing so, he wants to make it easier for developers to build secure and advanced crypto applications. According to Hoskinson, the language must combine different techniques that have not come together in this way so far.
Hoskinson announced on Sunday via X that he is working with Lucas Rosa, a software developer at Input Output Global (IOG). Rosa previously worked on Aiken, one of the key smart contract programming languages on Cardano (ADA).
It is striking that Hoskinson himself is involved in the development. Although he manages a company with many programmers, he chooses to personally contribute to the technology on which future Cardano applications may be built.
The new language should combine three techniques: transaction intents, proof-carrying data and Groth16. This allows developers to perform complex transactions while cryptographically proving that pre-set conditions are met.
The main difference lies in the way users can execute transactions. With transaction intents, they indicate what they want to achieve, without determining all the intermediate steps themselves.
For example, someone may indicate that they only want to exchange a crypto coin when the final price meets certain conditions. The application then determines how that is performed.
The other two techniques focus on safety and control. With proof-carrying data, applications can exchange information that is provided with cryptographic proof. Groth16 makes it possible to prove with a small piece of evidence that certain conditions have been met, without disclosing all the underlying data.
Together, these techniques should allow Cardano to monitor complex transactions without having to perform each calculation again.
Cardano already has the programming languages Plutus and Aiken. In addition, Midnight, IOG's privacy-focused blockchain project, uses the Compact language.
When the new programming language will become available is not yet known. Hoskinson has also not yet shared a name, public program code or concrete schedule.
