AEX price opens green: ASML rises sharply
The AEX has started the new week in the green. This is partly due to a sharp rise at ASML. Here is what you need to know.
The AEX price started the new trading week with a rise of approximately 0.40 percent. This increase appears to be once again the result of a rise in the AI sector. After a period of doubt, particularly due to rising bond yields, we see that investors are not losing confidence in the AI revolution.
The biggest gainer on the Dutch stock exchange is once again ASML, the company that plays a crucial role in the global chip supply chain. At the time of writing, ASML is recording a rise of nearly 3 percent on Monday morning.
With that, the price jumps to 1,488 euros. It shows that investors are increasingly less concerned about rising bond yields. In any case, we can state that, for the time being, they remain confident that the AI cycle can hold up even at these rates.
ASML is not the only player performing well in the Dutch chip sector today. ASMI has also recorded a rise of over 2 percent. The only laggard today is BESI, which has started the new trading week practically unchanged.
Although the conflict between Iran and the United States, and the increased oil price that is the result of that, are important, the market this week focuses mainly on Trump and Xi.
US President Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping will meet later this week. This follows a meeting between US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng, who spoke this weekend.
Both parties indicated that they had experienced the meeting as positive. Interestingly, in addition to trade, AI was also discussed. Artificial intelligence appears to be increasingly becoming a geopolitical topic.
Probably Trump and Xi will also broach that topic this week. This promises to be very important for the AEX and the broader financial markets.
