A powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar and Thailand overnight, killing at least three people in Bangkok when a tower block under construction collapsed. Rescue workers say the rubble is still too unstable to try and find people who are possibly trapped beneath. The quake struck at midday and was followed by a strong 6.4 magnitude aftershock. The stock exchange in Thailand announcing the immediate suspension of all trading activities.

Video from Mandalay, Myanmar’s second largest city, showed widespread damage, though the extent of the destruction was not yet clear. Myanmar state media reported many civilians were killed and injured. A Red Cross official expressed concern over the damage done to the infrastructure in the company, in the country specifically dams and bridges.
