Tesla CEO Elon Musk might be stepping back from Doge, but he’s not staying out of politics entirely. Musk telling CBS Sunday morning he is quote, disappointed by the price tag of President Trump’s big, beautiful bill. Republicans in the house passed the Trump-backed tax bill last week, the legislation now heading to the Senate. The bill extends Trump’s 2017 tax cuts, creates temporary tax cuts like no taxes on tips or overtime, increases the salt deduction cap and boosts border security spending, and mandates work requirements for Medicaid among other things. In an interview set to air June 1st, Musk telling CBS, quote, I was disappointed to see the massive spending bill, frankly, which increases the budget deficit, not just decreases it, and undermines the work that the Doge team is doing. The tax provisions are expected to increase the deficit by $3.8 trillion by 2034. That’s according to the Congressional Budget Office. Musk also saying, quote, I think a bill can be big or it can be beautiful, but I don’t know if it can be both. Comments come as Musk pledges to significantly cut back his role at Doge amid widespread criticism, particularly in light of Tesla’s recent performance. The stock down 10% so far for the year.
